The Turning
Point Foundation is a faith based organization, which provides
services for
Turning Point Foundation's vision is to promote youth values and development that will lead to the avoidance of chemical abuse and gang activities by championing chemical-free lifestyles, enhancing self respect and self esteem, improving work ethics, building supportive relationships, and developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through applied Judeo-Christian values and Biblical principles.
Turning Point
Foundation’s activities center around youth development. The primary area
of our youth development is in the Turning Point Academy and the Adventures program. These programs, provides opportunities for
youth and at-risk young people, in a safe and fun environment. The Turning
Point Adventures program consist of a youth camp in
Crosslake, MN (Camp Turning Point), local adventure sites,
life coaches, mentors
and outreach.
One of the cornerstones of Turning Point Adventures is a Drop-In-Center. The Recreation Center will be approximately 1,000 square foot space, staffed by volunteers from approximately 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends, or as staffing allows. A youth outreach team member will also be available to assist young people in decision-making skills and to serve as a positive role model. The Drop-In-Center will also bring in business people and community officials to serve as mentors.
Camp Turning Point is a one-week, “overnight” camp, which runs Sunday afternoon through Friday, consisting of fishing, boating, skiing and other outdoor activities. The activities are intertwined with faith based youth outreach. The Camp Turning Point is also available for weekend retreats based upon availability.
Turning Point Adventures consists of participating in
local Twin Cities'
activities, such as attending
Throughout all
of the Turning Point Adventures there will be mentoring,
Keith Carlson has been a police officer for 21 years, working in Orange
County, California and Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He was an active
participant in the Brooklyn Center Community Oriented Policing (“COP”s)
program during the mid to late 1990s, which targeted youth development
and community involvement.
Mr. Carlson received a B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota in Sociology and
Criminal Justice. In addition to his work with the police
department, Mr. Carlson
and his wife Toni stay very busy raising their two daughters, Kaia (14) and Kalle
(9).
